A Line In the Sand
2 Corinthians 10:1-6

Living a life of godliness can rub people the wrong way. Paul had to deal with many people who wanted to be somebody in the church, but didn’t want to live lives of godliness. It is because they had a “form of godliness” but remained unchanged by the power of God. But Paul did not become discouraged. Instead, he taught us how to draw that proverbial line in the sand.

He Is Not One Of Us (What makes us one of us?)
    Acts 10:1-16

The Creator notices godliness. He yearns for it among His people, but he sees it among the nations. The Jews had a hard time accepting this. Nothing less than an intervention of God could have changed this. But it is clear. Do you notice this among non-believing friends and family? Pour fuel on that spark!

What They Say About You When You Are Gone Matters Most
    2 Chronicles 29:1-11

The author of the books of the Kings and the Chronicles would either begin or end the accounts of the lives of the Kings with a simple summary statement. Of King Ahaz, he wrote, “He did not do what was right in the Lord’s sight like his ancestor, David.” (2 Chronicles 28:1) Of Hezekiah, he says something different. Which would you rather have written about you? What will be written?

Gifts To Give Your Children: Contentment

We have so much and there is so much potential within us. Sometimes people accept mediocrity because their view of their potential in Christ is blocked by what everyone else has or is doing. When we learn to see ourselves through God’s eyes, we begin the journey toward contentment.

What They Say About You When You Are Gone Matters Most
    1 Timothy 4:1-10

Godliness is the application of God’s plan to the human experience. Before a person become a Christian she or he lives according to their own plan. When Christ’s gift becomes our possession, things change; unless you decide to hold on to ideas of the past.

Gifts to Give Your Children: Boldness
    Acts 4:5-13

The first century Christians held themselves in a way that was hard to miss. They were confident and straightforward. Luke simply uses the term boldness to describe them. The opposite of boldness is fearfulness, which is the natural virtue that surfaces if boldness is not present.

    Principles of Perseverance
    1 Peter 3:8-18

Peter states that perseverance is one of the virtues in which a Christian should continually grow (2 Peter 1:6, 8). Throughout the two letters he writes, he gives several principles of perseverance. Today we will notice those found in this section of 1st Peter.

Gifts you Can Give Your Children
    Acts 2:42-47

What happens when parents give their kids things they don’t need? The kids grow up. (Insert awkward pause). Then what? They operate according to the virtues that you have planted. There is no magical time when kids get it. They get what you give them. Godly character is the gift. Over the next several Sunday evenings we will discover several of these essential gifts.

    Perseverance Can Be Astonishing
    1 Peter 4:1-6

It is not easy to live in this world when you have the convictions of faith. Culture clamors and shouts to be heard. It distracts and deceives to gain acceptance. We have to dig in or give in. Peter’s message to us is to “Dig in deep!”

Don’t Use That Kind of Language Around Me
    2 Corinthians 4:7-8

Is this sermon about the dangers of having a potty-mouth? No. If we have to have that talk, this would be a sermon on Matthew 15:18. This is a message about change. Sometimes, change is a bad word to us. We are afraid of it, don’t understand it and we’re comfortable the way we are; but change is the basic truth of life. When we stop changing physically, we start dying. The same is true spiritually.

    Got Motivation?
    Nehemiah 2:11-20

As Nehemiah made his way to Jerusalem and began to work on the wall, his approach was different from how others may approached. He didn’t announce with fanfare or call attention to himself. How come? Because it was his deal

    Healthy Teaching
    2 Timothy 4:1-8

So many in our wayward society have rejected the idea of healthy teaching and have replaced it with ideas and concepts that bring decay, suffering, and in many ways, death. One of the challenges of the ministries that the church offers is to communicate the wellness that comes from knowing God. The truth brings mental, emotional, physical, and certainly spiritual, wellness.

Our Blood Type is Be Positive
    I Thessalonians 5:16-18

Growing as a Christian is a process of identifying, removing and replacing. We identify, through our study of scripture areas where we need to change. We pray for wisdom and insight on how to remove those things that need to change, and seek the Holy Spirit for the power to replace. We have had a few discussions on overcoming fear. It is not enough to overcome fear. We have to replace the fear with optimism.

    From Chaos to Order
    Isaiah 41

When life bears down or we endure the adverse consequences of our actions, life can seem chaotic. It is at those times we need order. Isaiah writes at a time of impending doom. He tells us to look to the future and not despair because of our present circumstance. Rather, in our despair, look out and look up.

You Never Know What You’ll Find When You’re Lost
    Philippians 3:12-16

Every experience in life has value to the person who follows Christ. We should become skilled at interpreting and filtering all the events of our life through our faith. That allows us to take captive every attitude and action and make it obedient to Christ.

    Keeping Your Life on Course
    Romans 6:1-23

The book of James refers to single-minded faith as a perquisite to not being pushed around by the winds (see James 1:5-8). As a Christian, this is always the challenge. The winds of culture are always going to blow and we are always going to be affected by those winds. We are in the middle of several cultural storms right now. Christians are to learn the skill of tacking across the wind and utilizing the power that is intrinsic in followers of Christ.

Seven Easy Steps to Great Communication
    Psalm 19

God is the master communicator. He has communicated His will and His love using the creation, the written Word and even His own Son. What makes his communication quality is the belief system that drives it. When we struggle with communication, it is usually not because of technique, but because of what we believe.

    Carry the Load
    Galatians 6:1-10

Relationships are God’s idea. By nature, they involve more than one person. God’s intent is that we can encourage, love and support one another in this journey we call life. When one walks it alone, it is difficult to bear all the challenge. When two or three walk together, they support one another and share the burden. What happens when we are in a relationship where only one person is carrying the load?
