May 8, 2016Q&A – Jeremiah & JoshuaBy: Ben CookSeries: A Work in Progress
Question and Answer
The two questions we will take time to explore tonight are:1. Is Jeremiah 29:11 only contextual or can it be singled out to be used as our culture uses it - such as for graduation celebrations and as an encouragement verse? Also, I’ve noticed a difference in some versions. One used the word “prosper” and another “plans for welfare”. Very different ideas.2. A question about Joshua. He led the people all through these different cities and burned and killed everyone and everything in them basically. And I want to ask why is it okay to kill off all of those people and by God's instruction even?" These are great questions - and very timely, since our kids just finished studying Joshua for LTC! - May 8, 2016Carry the Load

Galatians 6:1-10
Relationships are God’s idea. By nature, they involve more than one person. God’s intent is that we can encourage, love and support one another in this journey we call life. When one walks it alone, it is difficult to bear all the challenge. When two or three walk together, they support one another and share the burden. What happens when we are in a relationship where only one person is carrying the load? - May 1, 2016LTC Awards Ceremony

2 Corinthians 10:1-6
Many have commented that we live in a culture that has become coarse and rude. The further we get from God’s plan, the worse off we are. Our relationships suffer as a result. God gives us guidelines for successful relationships. The virtue of gentleness is one of those principles that deepen our relationships. Over the next several weeks we will study some of the guidelines that God gives us for deeper relationships. - Apr 24, 2016Philippines Ministry

James 1:14-15
The shame still exists, but the secret is out. Our country has a serious problem with lust, and so does the church. It's so pervasive that attitudes about pornography are relaxing, but please, don't dismiss it because it's a common struggle, and don't buy into the idea that you are a product of your culture. You are a product of the Spirit of God. Perhaps the hardest lessons to preach are the ones about self-control because they're the bitterest pills to swallow. James makes a great observation in James 1. Sin is not the product of our culture. It's not the product of a malicious God, nor even a cantankerous Devil. Sin is the product of our deepest desires, and those desires will master us, if we do not master them. - Apr 17, 2016Speak At One Another

Proverbs 18:2
"A fool takes no pleasure in understanding - only in expressing his opinion" - Proverbs 18:2. And with that one proverb, we have summed up all the dysfunction about how we communicate in the 21st century. This is why the political process has ground to a screeching halt. It's why your marriage is deteriorating. It's why you feel more and more alone at school. We don't speak to one another, we speak at one another. Tonight, we will take a look at some key principles in good communication. It will improve your business life, your love life, and everywhere else you need to be around people. - Apr 17, 2016Feasting and Fasting

Philippians 3:17-19
I Get it. Getting a lesson from a rotund preacher on gluttony is like getting safety advice from a finger less, wood shop teacher. The good news is this: not all gluttons are fat, and not all who are overweight are gluttons. The bad news is this: gluttony is one sin nobody wants to talk about. And for good reason. This morning we will continue our series on Self Control with a lesson on drunkenness, gluttony, and fasting. - Apr 10, 2016When Happiness Isn’t Enough

Hebrews 10:32
The qualitative difference between people of faith and people without faith is the existence of joy. This is a state of mind that is not dependent on circumstances. When people without faith have challenges, happiness flees. Scripture suggests something different; that we can have joy in the challenges. The difference? Happiness demands something, joy brings something. - Apr 10, 2016What’s Your Legacy?

1 Samuel 31
The end of Saul’s life is a tragic episode. It is not because he died a violent death; we read of many such deaths in scripture. It is not because he suffered; others have suffered more. It is because it was so needless. Everything he tried to escape, met him at the end. It is always that way. Any running from God is a short race. It is much better to fear God and obey His commandments, for this is what it means to be human. - Apr 3, 2016Self-Control – Greed & Generosity

2 Corinthians 9:6-9
Greed and generosity run on a scale, and it seems like greed is getting a lot of air time these days. It is the subtext of many political platforms right now. "If I'm elected, I'll stick it to those greedy politicians/big businesses/wealthy, etc.." Greed is nothing new in the world, but generosity is the hallmark of God's people. Make no mistake - generosity does not just happen one day. Some of the most generous men and women I know are generous because they are disciplined, and have learned self-control. - Mar 27, 2016Finding God’s Will Any “witch” Way You Can

1 Samuel 28:1-27
People need to hear from God. He has communicated to humans in many ways over the vast span of time. God’s word is clear and generally easy to understand. Some statements He makes are very bold. Others are filled with compassion and love. His desire is that we would seek Him, because He is close. But if you are living in opposition to His will, it will be hard to hear. - Mar 27, 2016The Saga of Near Wins

1 Corinthians 9:19-27
Did you ever almost win? There is something that awakens in a person when they find themselves there. Did you ever almost win, and give up, so insuring the loss? What is the difference between these scenarios? Each individual has the ability within them to win. It may be at a different level than others, but it is still there. I can guarantee that you will never win if you give up. - Mar 20, 2016You Can Handle the Truth!

Luke 14:25-35
We were made for greatness! It is important that we understand that truth. Jesus has been where we are and He knows our potential. That is why He doesn’t sugar coat His calling in our lives. When we settle for mediocrity our lives in Christ will lack joy and power. He gives it to us straight, because we can handle the truth. - Mar 13, 2016Between The Rock and a Hard Place

1 Samuel 27:1-12
The day that David left the land of Israel and moved to the land of the Philistines, he made a decision that had unintended consequences. Had he known, perhaps he would have done things differently. That is the problem with big decisions. It is also the motivation to be people who strive to follow the will of God, which is a filter for the decisions we make. - Mar 13, 2016Ungodly Parenting

Proverbs 1:8-9
Few of us are born into being parenting experts. For the rest of us, it's On the Job Training. All we really know is It's not going to be like our parents did to us. This makes parenting even harder. It's tough to know what to do, when you spend all your time thinking about what not to do. This Sunday I want to offer one principle that, if you apply it in your family, will radically transform your house, and will have a lasting impact on your kids, and their faith.
